The module pins were bent during shipment but I could mend it. First you need to update the firmware : look at those links for tutorial : -http://bbs.nodemcu.com/t/nodemcu-firmware-download-build-20150318-new-location/27 - http://www.electrodragon.com/w/ESP8266_NodeMCU_Dev_Board - http://bbs.nodemcu.com/t/nodemcu-firmware-download-build-20150318-new-location/27 - https://github.com/nodemcu/nodemcu-flasher Easy to have it work. Enjoy !

to flash new firmware: 0) on windows/mac - download drivers (google it). No drives required on Linux (but use sudo) 1) download firmware https://github.com/nodemcu/nodemcu-firmware/tree/master/pre_build/latest 2) download esptool.py https://github.com/themadinventor/esptool 3) hold the 'flash' button on the board and run ./esptool.py --port=/dev/ttyUSB0 write_flash 0x00000 nodemcu_latest.bin 4) you can use ESPlorer to comunicate with it https://github.com/4refr0nt/ESPlorer
